Activewear Review: Onemore Active
Who else has been chilling in sweats and loungewear over the past few months? *Raises hand* I’m all about comfort, and when I exercise, I don’t want to wear restrictive tops or bottoms that feel uncomfortable. So, when the awesome people at Onemore Activewear contacted me about collaborating with them, I got excited. Well, let me tell you, they did not disappoint! I got the Galway Grey set (trying to expand beyond black) and the color is lovely. It is SMOOTH, SOFT, and COMFY. I wore it all day and did not want to take it off. The set hugged me just right while also remaining stretchy and durable, which…

Tea Detoxes: Yes or No?
Who doesn’t love a quick fix? And when you see the “detox teas” and “skinny teas” being advertised to tone your tummy and make your figure more svelte, it’s definitely tempting to try. However, this quick fix may not be the answer…it may not even be a quick fix, for that matter. Here’s the deal on skinny teas: Skinny Teas or Detox Teas Usually Contain Senna Leaf The Senna plant has been used for centuries as a laxative and is often an ingredient in concoctions aimed at relieving constipation. Senna leaf tea will not melt fat or shed pounds, it’ll just make you go #2. There Can Be…

Final Check-in: Keto + Fitness Challenge
Well, my two-week keto and fitness challenge is over! How did I do? I dropped a few pounds (yay!) but I also added some muscle, so it almost canceled out. Eeeeep! I am more toned than I was before (I’ve been doing weight training), and I did whittle down my waist but I do feel my thighs are kinda muscular. Not bad in and of itself, but…hmm…as long as they don’t prevent me from fitting into what I want, I won’t complain? Energy – great! I didn’t feel dragged down or tired the way we sometimes feel when starting strict keto (I usually do targeted keto). Sleep – I think…

End of First Week: Keto + Fitness Challenge
So, I’ve got to keep it honest and real, guys… On Saturday the 12th I attended my cousin’s funeral (Rest in Peace, Gregory) and was constantly on the go that day. Before the funeral, I stopped by my grandmother’s home and she fed me chili (very delicious, with a nice amount of beef, but not necessarily helpful with the strict keto because of the beans). I opted out of eating at the repast because it was all high-carb (pasta, sandwiches, etc.) and had a cup of coffee, figuring I’d grab something later or even when I arrived at home. So as I drove nearly 2 hours home, I was hangry…

Third Day Check-In: Keto + Fitness Challenge
How are we doing? On Monday I started this 2-week Keto + Fitness challenge, which you are completely welcome to jump in and join, or simply take note and watch how this all unfolds 🙂 After eating and drinking as I wanted for Thanksgiving and Christmas, I wanted to start off 2019 with a fitness bang! This year is going to be all about self-care and self-improvement. I want to learn how to do new things (various skills or hobbies), I want to step up my game when it comes to fitness/health, and most of all, I want to take care of my body and my mind so that I…

Two Week Keto + Fitness Challenge
After the festivities of the holidays, many of us will be fulfilling our New Year’s resolutions to get into shape. I’ve noticed that the ketogenic diet has been growing in popularity, and more people are talking about it and exploring it. And I think that’s awesome! I started my keto journey last year after trying smoothie detoxes, unicorn tears, and other methods. They didn’t work for me, and I was left hungry and stuck at weight plateaus. However, with the keto diet, I’ve managed to lose 30 pounds, break through those plateaus, and stick to an eating regimen that doesn’t leave me hungry or on the verge of binge eating.…

Keto During The Holidays
It’s that time of year! Sweet treats, frothy hot drinks, and savory meals are all part of our end-of-the-year holiday feasting. But, when you’re actively on the keto diet, especially strict keto, this can be a huge challenge! You don’t want to undo the progress you’ve made, but at the same time you don’t want to be eating mere salad at Christmas dinner (watch the Romaine lettuce). So, how do you navigate holiday eating? Especially when you know you’ll have friends and family encouraging you to take a slice of pie, down a glass of wine, or snag your portion of mac n’ cheese. OPTION 1: STAY THE KETO…

Final Check-In: Reverse Meal Plan Makeover
Well, I went the entire month of October using the Reverse Meal Plan method created by the amazing Melanie Anderson over at Six on A Budget! Here’s my final check-in from the last two weeks of October. The week of the 15th -20th I spent $119 at Ralphs. Below is a pic from October 27th, showing I spent $63.27 at Ralphs. Not shown is an additional $60 I spent at Aldi that same day, as I decided to split my shopping between the two stores. So, I’d say my average weekly grocery spending was between $100 – $123, which, feeding a family of 8 and a cat, is pretty awesome!…

Reverse Meal Plan Makeover: First Check-In
It’s check-in time! A couple of weeks ago I was inspired by blogger Melanie Anderson and committed myself to a “Reverse Meal Plan Makeover” for the month of October. Well, today is my first check-in, and boy do I have some things to share. Let’s start with my first grocery excursion at my local Ralph’s: Note, I did my first round of shopping on Sept. 29th (a Saturday) and counted it toward my first week of October. I usually do my weekly grocery haul on Saturday mornings. Total spent: $119.07 Savings (Coupons, Clearance/Sale items, etc.): $33.09 For me, this wasn’t bad! I would usually spend $160 – $230 on a…

My Health & Fitness Story
“Oh! I see you had your baby,” another parent in the school parking lot said to me one day as we ushered our kids into our cars. I had strapped my then infant into his car seat and my older ones had buckled themselves in. I was picking up my eldest from her after-school program and really wasn’t in the mood for chit-chat, but I managed to politely smile and comment, “Yes, he’s going to be a year old soon.” “But why does your body look like that?” Frazzled, and a little taken aback, I asked, “Like what?” “Like that?” Then I realized what she was getting at. If you…
